This position exists to inspect public buildings and state-licensed facility construction projects to verify compliance with approved plans, the state building code and plan review. This position also monitors and reviews the performance of municipalities that administer the state building code, with a special emphasis on those that hold delegation agreements with the Department of Labor and Industry to perform code administration for public buildings and state-licensed facilities.

The legal services director serves as chief general counsel to the commissioner, deputy commissioner, assistant commissioners and managers about legal, legislative and policy issues. This position advises staff members about issues that arise as a result of the agency's administration and enforcement of the laws, rules and regulations regarding programs under the purview of the Department of Labor and Industry in areas of workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, wage and hour, prevailing wage, combative sports, construction codes and licensing, and apprenticeship.
