The APEX initiative

May 2017 -- With assistance from Apprenticeship Minnesota's  APEX initiative, 32 pre-apprentices from Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 MN/ND (BAC) completed 12-week courses in bricklaying, tilefinishing and pointer-cleaner-caulking.

Job success

Before the end of the courses, 70-percent of the participants had found employment in the craft for which they trained. The remaining participants expected to be employed within the next 30 days.

"It was amazing to see their smiles at the completion ceremony knowing the opportunities that await them," said Jody Paulsen, BAC training director.

BAC is one of four local partners participating in DLI's APEX initiative that is working to expand apprenticeship opportunities in construction to women, people of color and veterans.
