Benefits
The Minnesota workers' compensation statutes entitle an injured employee to reasonable and necessary medical treatment or supplies to cure or relieve the effects of the work injury. The employer is required to furnish medical treatment as described by Minnesota Statutes 176.135, subd. 1, including psychological, chiropractic, podiatric, surgical and hospital treatment.

Workers' compensation benefits for temporary total disability, temporary partial disability, permanent total disability and dependency benefits result in eligibility to receive annual increases to the weekly rate during the life of a claim. The date of injury determines if any adjustments are due, when the first adjustment is made and the percent increase that is applied.

The Department of Labor and Industry is required to produce this annual report about the assessment and collection of fines and penalties under the state workers' compensation law (see Minnesota Statutes 176.222). Under workers' compensation law, penalties are paid either to the Assigned Risk Safety Account or directly to injured employees.

A qualified rehabilitation consultant (QRC) is a vocational rehabilitation counselor who is registered with the Department of Labor and Industry. To become a QRC, an individual must submit an R-20 Application for Approval and Registration as a Qualified Rehabilitation Consultant/Intern form and complete a one- to three-year internship. During the internship, the applicant must become either a:
