This program is a Recognized Apprenticeship Preparation Program and provides participants with consistent and quality training needed to succeed in registered apprenticeship programs while meeting employer and industry needs.
Overview
Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota (GESMN) provides a 12-week, 300-hour construction training course designed to provide hands-on, technical training in construction trades concepts and practices and in both hands-on lab and field-based settings. GESMN offers a hands-on, four-week, 160-hour solar installer and storage (SI&S) training providing technical training for those interested basics of electrical installation of solar panels/storage batteries and other clean energy technologies such as heat pumps and electric vehicle chargers.

Program requirements and services

Be 18 years of age or older.

High-school diploma or GED/equivalent.

Have at least one barrier to employment (e.g., disability, at-risk youth, unhoused, history of misdemeanor or felony convictions, etc.).

Be interested in gaining competitive, long-term employment in the construction trades.

Be willing and able to obtain a valid Minnesota driver’s license/permit by end of training.

Be eligible to work in the U.S.

Be willing to voluntarily disclose any criminal history during application process to determine employability in the trades.

Be able to meet physical demands of construction tasks (e.g., lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, bend/kneel for extended periods of time); medical clearance for physical tasks associated with training may be required.

Be able to self-administer any medication at least 30 days prior to enrollment and during training.

Be able to communicate effectively with customers, employees and coworkers consistent with vocational goals.

Be able to understand and use training techniques with or without reasonable accommodations.
Are any assessments/tests required for entry into this program: Yes, 7th-grade or higher proficiency level in math and 6th-grade or higher in reading on Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS); and/or same proficiency levels on TABE 11 or 12

During information sessions, potential enrollees can fill out an application and take the CASAS assessment to determine eligibility.
