  • Master and journeyman plumbers must complete 16 hours of approved continuing education in each two-year license period. Twelve hours must pertain to the State Plumbing Code and four hours must pertain to technical topics related to plumbing installations and equipment, the Minnesota State Building Code, or the Minnesota statutes governing plumbing work. No more than four hours can be completed online in each license period.

  • Water conditioning masters and journeyman licensees must take four hours of approved continuing education during each license period. At least two hours must pertain to technical topics related to water conditioning installation and servicing, or the Minnesota statutes and rules relating to water conditioning.

  • Medical gas certificate holders must take four hours of approved continuing education each license period beginning with their initial renewal. All four hours must pertain to the technical topics related to the installation, repair, or maintenance of medical gas systems, NFPA 99, or the Minnesota laws and rules relating to medical gas systems.

  • Backflow prevention testers and rebuilders are not required to take CE courses but most obtain ASSE tester or repairer certification.

Plumbers who have more than one type of license can apply their CE courses to all of their licenses -- only the hours required for the license with the highest CE requirement must be fulfilled.

Continuing education sponsors are required to report a plumber's attendance directly to us, so attendees do not have to submit course completion certificates with a license renewal. However, please keep copies of these documents for reference should a problem or question arise relating to CE status in the future.
