Electrical permits - contractors

Apply for an electrical permit online here. Users must create an account to obtain permits and pay additional fees (AFBs) for existing permits.

Inspections

Find contact information for electrical inspectors in the electrical inspector lookup. Before filing a permit or calling for an inspection, verify the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in the directory:

  • If the AHJ column lists "State," file the permit with us. Contact information for the inspector is included in the directory.

  • If the column shows "Local," contact the local city or township for more information.

A permit will be evaluated at application time and appropriate inspection request information will be provided via email. 

Permits will have one of the following processes identified in the “issued” email:

  • For inspections in contract electrical inspection areas, the contact information for your inspector will be provided. Contact the inspector listed to schedule your inspection.

  • For permits that are eligible for virtual inspection, information is provided for self-scheduling a virtual inspection.

  • For state electrical inspector-assigned permits, information will be provided for using the “Ready for Inspection” process described in the email you receive after your permit has been submitted.

The email you receive when the permit is issued will contain the information that you need. You do not need to determine which method to use yourself.
