Accidents

The owner or property manager of an elevator or related device must notify the authority having jurisdiction of any accident involving personal injury or damage to equipment. Notification may be given by telephone or verbally. The notification must also be confirmed in writing. Notification must be made within one working day of the accident.

Complaints

For issues of accessibility, contact your local building official.

The Elevator Inspections Unit investigates complaints related to elevators, escalators and other devices regulated by Minnesota Rules Chapter 1307. Examples include:

  • Elevator code violations.

  • Reports of unsafe operation or condition of elevators, escalators, and related devices.

  • Elevator work performed by unlicensed individuals or contractors.

  • Accidents involving personal injury or damage to elevators, escalators and related devices. 

  • Installation, alteration or removal of elevators, escalator or related devices without proper permitting.
