Paid opportunity for journeyworkers

Journeyworkers are essential to the success of an apprentice and play a key role in preparing apprentices not just for the job, but for their career. This is why Apprenticeship Minnesota is investing in journeyworkers’ development by offering a paid, four-part Journeyworker Mentorship Cohort. Training begins in October 2026. View the flyer for details and to sign-up.

Preparing for your program review

The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry reviews apprenticeship programs to assess the overall condition of a sponsor’s program, compliance with registered standards and the relevant regulations at 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) part 29 and part 30, and Minnesota Statutes §178 and Minnesota Rules 5200.0320.

Apprenticeship program reviews (APR)

All provisional programs complete two program reviews in RAPIDS during the one-year provisional period at three and seven months after program registration. All permanent registered programs complete annual program review in RAPIDS.

Extended apprenticeship program review (EAPR)

Required for programs with five or more apprentices two years after the date a program is registered. Complete both the APR checklist and EAPR checklist.

Resources to help prepare

Recruitment and outreach resource lists

These documents are a resource for registered apprenticeship programs in expanding their network of community based organizations and workforce boards in different regions of Minnesota. The U.S. Department of Labor (US DOL) also coordinates a Universal Outreach Tool that may include additional resources.

Hiring veterans

Sponsors who are interested in hiring veterans may also be eligible to receive funds from the state of Minnesota. The Minnesota GI Bill incentives $1,000 to hire and $1,000 to retain each veteran they hire in programs that support the GI Bill. In the case of training centers, they will be eligible for these funds rather than the employer. This process is automatically started when a veteran is hired and applies for their Minnesota GI Bill. To learn more about this process and or ask questions about the Minnesota GI Bill, contact the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs at MNGIBill@state.mn.us. View more information about GI Bill benefits for your apprentices.
