See our checklist to determine if your proposed "minor remodel" project requires plan review. We retain the right to deny any request. This includes but is not limited to any request that is not considered standard installation, not listed in the checklist, or if any plumbing work is installed prior to permitting.

Always check with the administrative authority for plan review requirements and verify a project qualifies for "minor remodel" permit only. The scope of the plumbing work under “minor remodel” is limited to standard plumbing installations consisting of five or fewer fixture-type in a non-licensed facility such as water closet/lavatory installation in existing facilities. Be advised that the administrative authority can deny your request and require plan review by our office for any plumbing installation that is five or fewer fixture-type. Plumbing inspections must be performed by the administrative authority.

For projects where DLI is the administrative authority and inspections will be conducted by DLI, the proposed work must qualify for a "minor remodel," the following must be completed and submitted to our office:

  1. Contact your DLI regional plumbing inspector in the project area for notification and approval of possible "minor remodel" work without plan review.

  2. An inspection permit application must be completed by the plumbing contractor.

  3. Contact judy.tacheny@state.mn.us to pay required inspection fees online or mail a check and application to our office; and

  4. When requested, submit project information including plumbing plans for inspection records.

Upon confirmation that we received the required items above, the plumbing contractor may proceed to install without plan review and contact the regional plumbing inspector for inspections. All installations must meet the Minnesota Plumbing Code and required inspections must be performed (see Minnesota Rules, parts 1300.0215, subparts 1 and 2). View more information about inspections.

Incomplete submissions or inaccurate information will delay the request or the permit application may be denied. We will contact you if we need more information or clarification.
